If you want to discover some great culture during your holiday to Mexico, you will certainly enjoy Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city.

This area is rich in beautiful architecture, historical buildings and places of interest, and also has some great visitor attractions, shops and delicious food!

You also might like to take a holiday property rental here, so you can make the most of your stay in Guadalajara, which is the capital city of the state of Jalisco in Mexico.

Not surprisingly, there is plenty to see and do in this amazing city, with some definite must-sees.

The beautiful Guadalajara Cathedral is well worth a visit, as is Belen Cemetery, which has been turned into a museum. If you are keen on art, then make sure you see the superb Mexican murals by Jose Clemente Orozco at the Cabañas Cultural Institute, and also the Government Palace, which houses some fantastic murals by Jose Clemente Orozco, too.

There are also some family-friendly attractions in the area. There’s Guadalajara Zoo, Selva Mágica (an amusement park near the zoo) and Guadalajara Planetarium and Science Centre, which the kids will appreciate.

If you’re looking to see the sights of Guadalajara in a different way, you can take a ride in a horse drawn carriage! You can just sit back, enjoy the views and soak up the atmosphere of the city.

If you want to take a break from the sightseeing, why not visit Guadalajara’s Metropolitan Park, for example? It’s an ideal spot to sit and enjoy a picnic.

During your self catering holiday in Mexico, you will probably want to dine at a local restaurant and sample some traditional Mexican cuisine. There’s a good choice of restaurants here too.

Those who enjoy shopping also won’t be disappointed in this city, as there is an excellent range of shops on offer around here. If you’re looking for a handcrafted gift to take home, you should be able to find it here!

But for serious shopaholics, there’s Tlaquepaque, a suburb of Guadalajara. You will be spoilt for choice with the amazing selection of shops here. If you’re in no hurry and you love shopping, you may want to spend a day or more here!

With so much to see and do here, you probably won’t need to explore anywhere outside of the city. However, if time allows, there are some great places you can visit, which are in easy reach of Guadalajara.

One exciting attraction is the Tequila Express Tour. The fun starts in Guadalajara, where you catch a train to Amatitan. You can enjoy the famous Mexican drink Tequila, refreshments, snacks and music throughout the journey as you pass some beautiful countryside along the way. After arriving in Amatitan, you board a bus to Hacienda San José del Refugio, home of Herradura Tequila, for a tour. This is followed by a buffet lunch.

Other places which you might also want to visit from Guadalajara are Chapala (and Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest lake!) and Ajijic. Why not discover the beauty of this area and enjoy a day trip or even a longer stay?

Guadalajara is an ideal holiday destination, whatever your age and taste. Whether you’re planning a relaxing break, a holiday rich in culture or a family vacation, you will have an enjoyable time in this amazing city and its surrounding area!

Who’d of thought there’d be low riders on Nicollet Mall or Brooks Brothers suits being replaced by top buttoned shirts and colors stuck in back pockets. Well, we still haven’t. But you’ ld think we’d be one step closer with a joint called Barrio on the street. If your a home-boy hankering for a little bit of East L.A….this isn’t it. The word barrio means district or neighborhood. It can also mean a cohesive place of sharing which is more of what Barrio Tequila Bar is all about. Tucked into a former Dunn Bros. coffee store next to the venerable Irish Pub The Local, Barrio has carved out a cute little spot for the good looking and well healed downtowners to get their taco fixes along with the chance to sample over 100 tequilas.

I happened to walk in the same night the Vikings were playing a Monday night game and was a little surprised to see t.v.’s. Besides the obligatory flat screens poised at the corners of the bar, there was a giant projection screen covering almost an entire wall. Barrio is a long narrow space and the big screen was only directly visible by a few tables, but the reflection in the massive back bar mirror made the images available to practically everyone in the space. But just so not to turn Barrio into a sports bar on nights like this, they kept the hip Latin jazz cranked instead of the banal banter of the t.v. announcers. The crowd ranged from work shirts and jeans to stylish club wear that night seemed rather oblivious to the game. I liked the mix though, it kept everyone relaxed and having a good time.

Let’s start at the bar. As we entered we were greeted by my favorite hot downtown bartender from Solera (a cousin of Barrio by the way). Jane was waving madly until we spotted her and responded. It took me awhile to see her because my eye was caught by the massive collection of tequila bottles. I’m a bit of a tequila snob and have tried to keep up with all the newest labels flooding the market in recent years, but this was confounding even me. There were names and bottle shapes I had never seen before. There were even some varieties of certain brands that I didn’t even know existed. I wanted to start at the top of the list and taste my way down. Knowing the inherent danger in that I decided to start somewhere in the middle and just be happy with one or tow taste that night. I wasn’t ready to end the night doing flaming shots while running down the mall howling at the moon. (I’ll tell that story some other day.) Most tequilas in most bars are served in Margaritas. But the occasional shot is usually accompanied by a salt shaker and wedge of lime. Or training wheels as its know in the industry. Barrio has done there research and offer a group of tasty “compadres” to with your shot of tequila. The classic compadre found in many bars in Mexico is Sangrita, a blend of tomato, orange and lime juices spiked with a little hot chiles. They offered some unique and interesting flavors for the tequila novice of adventurous like Apple Ginger Soda and White Grapefruit Cherry Soda. The large, larger than the food menu, drink list even lists some well though out combinations of tequila and compadre to get you started. There are also rum, tequila and sangria cocktails listed along with a solid list of local and Mexican beers as well as Spanish and South American Wines.

As I said earlier Barrio is cousin to Solera and a vision of the most solid and creative restaurateur team in the Twin Cities, Josh Thoma and Tim McKee. They are focused and detail oriented and it shows. From the hip looking servers in logo’d denim or tee shirts to the dancing marionettes on the wall to the finely tuned menu. The menu may be small in stature, but awfully large in flavor. Simply organized into Small Plates, all priced at $7.50, Tacos and Enchiladas ranging from $3.50 to $4.00 and half a dozen Larger Plates. Chef McKee has taken his cues and style of cooking, preparation and presentation from what he has successfully developed at Solera and used it quite effectively at Barrio. He’s created a menu with honesty and has avoided some of the obvious cliches that might have tempted a lesser experienced Chef. There are not nachos, chicken wings or fried ice cream. What there is, is a list of foods like the rich Queso Fundido done with a soft and stringy melted cheese (I’m guessing Chihuahua) that is miles from the orange gloop found elsewhere. We had it embellished with a spicy chorizo that added to its richness while at the same time offering a compatible counter punch of garlic and vinegar. The tacos we tried were all soft corn and filled with great roll ups like carnita, (braised pork), fried mahi or spiced shrimp. At $3.50 each you could easily get out of there with a couple of tacos and a beer for under $10. Not bad in this economy. Our favorite was a Crab Empanda, little fried pillows of red corn dough filled with fresh blue crab set against a tomatillo salsa and an avocado pico. We finished with a chocolate Tres Leche, or three milk cake that was just ok… I would have preferred the classic white version instead.

You don’t need to wear you colors to get into Barrio. You don’t even need to be wearing a designer’s name either. But when your downtown and in the mood for a little of the “hood”. Slip into Barrio and order a shot or two and maybe a little bite to go with it. Leave your low rider with the valet.

You won’t be bored in Cancún! This beautiful coastal city has something for everyone.

It’s a perfect destination for a romantic getaway (wedding and honeymoon!), a family vacation, a sporting break or a relaxing beach holiday.

What’s more, Cancún, which is situated on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, is ideal for a holiday property rental, as there is a good selection of self catering accommodation available in this popular tourist destination.

With so many things you can do in amazing city, which is in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, you won’t know what to do first!

If you’re planning on tying the knot, Cancún is the ideal spot to get married – and then honeymoon. The city’s beautiful surroundings and stunning beaches provide an idyllic setting for your ceremony, making it a wedding to remember.

But you don’t have to be tying the knot and honeymooning to enjoy Cancún. It’s also ideal for those looking to spend an active holiday, too. This area of Mexico is great for watersports, such as scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing. The Great Mesoamerican Reef (the Gran Arrecife Maya), off the coast of Cancún, is the second largest coral reef in the world. With the beautiful coral and marine life here, this is a superb area to go scuba diving.

If you prefer playing sport on dry land then you can have a game of golf or tennis.

But if you have a more relaxing holiday in mind, you will also be able to find it here in Cancún too, especially if you’re a beach lover. Many people go to the city for its beautiful beaches. Here you can escape the hustle and bustle, lie on the beach and enjoy the sun.

After some rest and relaxation, you might want to catch up on some shopping during your stay in Mexico. If you are an avid shopper, you won’t be disappointed either. You will find markets, shopping malls and a mix of specialty shops in Cancún.

Restaurants are also in abundance in Cancún. You will be well catered for, whether you want fast food or a dinner cruise!

This Mexican city is also family-friendly. If you’ve got children in your group, they will appreciate the Acuario Interactivo (Interactive Aquarium Cancún) and MayaVentura.

And if you’re keen to find out about the local history and culture, you might like to visit some museums in the area. For example, there’s the INAH Museum (National Institute of Anthropology and History) and Zona Arqueológica El Rey, an archaeological site which is worth a visit.

There are also some interesting places to visit around Cancún, too. If time allows, be sure to check out the small island Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women, which can be found off the coast of Cancún. This beautiful island can be reached by ferry from the mainland. It’s a great place to relax, eat, drink, enjoy a variety of water sports or hire a bike. You can even visit the island’s Turtle Farm!

Cancún is also a good place to be if you’re looking for a good night out. There are various nightclubs, bars, lounge bars and live music venues where you can enjoy an evening out.

In México the word “salchicha” on a restaurant menu (sometimes spelled “salchica”) is usually translated into English as “sausage”. I well remember the first time I ordered it for breakfast, fully expecting to get a nice sausage patty or a couple of links with my eggs. Imagine my surprise when my breakfast arrived and instead of American-type sausages full of fat, sage and succulence, a couple of pale wieners stared wanly back at me from my plate, sliced down the middle and fried.

I know what my face looked like at that moment, because in ensuing years I took a certain vicious pleasure in not warning newbie American diners in México about it just so I could watch their faces when their breakfasts arrived. It was all part of allowing others the fun of discovery for themselves, doncha know. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)

In México (and throughout Latin America) “salchichas” means “wieners”, period; they are as ubiquitous as Spam is in Hawaii. You will even find them chopped up in spaghetti sauce (Mmmm, que sabroso…). And all that is just by way of introducing you to the notion that not all food-related issues in México are also health related.

Real Méxican food is often quite different from the dishes served in most Méxican/Tex-Mex restaurants in other countries, so if you think you’ve had “Méxican” food in the USA or Canada, you might be surprised to discover that you haven’t. If you have a taste for adventure you’ll be well rewarded in México; if not, stick to a few simple and traditional dishes that are almost always very good (and not necessarily spicy).

Tacos come to mind, of course, but they won’t be anything like what you get at the Taco Bell kind of places. Also likely to be familiar are guacamole, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, meatballs (albondigas) and of course rice and beans. You can branch out from there.

As for the health part of the equation, México offers some magnificently rich and/or spicy dishes, but it’s a good idea to take it easy for the first few days until your stomach has grown accustomed to its new environment. Upset stomachs and “turista” are commonly associated with unpurified water used in ice and to wash salads and fruit, but it can also be caused by the stress of traveling, foods that are new to you, too much too soon, or simply bacteria different to those at home.

Some good advice (that’s hard to follow): Start off slow, then begin trying new things a bit at a time– and don’t try to eat and drink everything in sight on your first day. Once your system has settled down, though, do try some of the regional specialties. It’s all part of experiencing a new country, and for many people the food is one of the main attractions of their vacation.

In the city of Puerto Penasco, where I spend much of my time, some regional foods might include Sonoran-style Grilled Chicken (Pollo Asado al Carbon), Cheese Soup (Caldo de Queso), or freshly made Chorizo. And do not pass up the gelatinas just because you think it’s only Jello. I assure you it is NOT. Handmade, sometimes too beautiful to eat, you will find flavors and colors that do not exist within the world of Jello boxes. A perfect light end to any meal, especially during the hot summmer months.

TIPS for eating out in Mexico: The flora and fauna living in your stomach and intestines are not used to the water and food in Mexico. It can take a while to acclimate. Also, the ingredients and methods of cooking may be very different from what you are used to. Not inferior, just different. Your stomach will let you know when you’ve gone too far.

Restaurants: In most restaurants catering to tourists, you are usually safe to eat whatever you want. The last thing they want is for a customer to get sick, so they use fresh food and cook/wash fruits and vegetables with purified water. A general rule of thumb: if it is freshly cooked it’s safe to eat. Until you are acclimated, avoid uncooked vegetables such as salads. As for the water, it’s a good idea to drink purified water, which is commonly served in restaurants and which you can buy very cheaply in 5-gallon plastic jugs almost anywhere. Mexicans like clean water, too, and they buy purified water just like you and I do. Note also that BY LAW in Mexico all ice offered for human consumption must be made of purified water. You can tell ice cubes are purified by the hole in the middle of the cube.

Street Vendors: Most taco stands are perfectly safe, but if you are not yet acclimated be careful about ordering food from them. Just because you see a bunch of gringos eating in front of one doesn’t necessarily mean anything. They might live in the area or be frequent visitors whose systems are used to the food and any microbes that your system isn’t used to yet. So by all means explore the possibilities of the often wonderful food offered at street-side stands, but use some common sense. Does it look clean? Is the food prepared in front of you (fresh)? Does the person preparing it wash his/her hands?

Oh-oh, Trouble! It is estimated that 40% of foreign traveler vacations in Mexico are disrupted by “turista”, aka “Montezuma’s Revenge”. Most cases are mild and resolve in a few days with no treatment. Severe or extended cases, however, may require medical intervention. IF in spite of your precautions you are unfortunate enough to suffer intestinal distress, the following website gives very good information about the subject of “Montezuma’s Revenge”, along with advice on what to do about it: http://www.travelyucatan.com/montezumas_revenge.php

Oh, one more thing about those wieners: They’re usually of the Vienna type, pale in color and not particularly rich in flavor. In fact, they may be the only food served in México that isn’t rich in flavor. By far the most popular brand is called FUD (pronounced ‘food’). Unless you love those weenies, go with chorizo (which is REAL Méxican sausage) or machaca for breakfast instead. You can thank me later.

It’s no wonder why Mexico is such a popular tourist destination. Millions of people flock to the country each year to enjoy its warm and sunny climate, its fantastic beach resorts, its culture and its diverse natural beauty.

There is so much to see and do in this amazing country. Mexico City is the country’s capital and is well worth a visit. It’s also a good place to start your holiday. It’s brimming with museums, culture, restaurants, shops, parks and Mexico City is definitely the place to be if you’re looking for some great nightlife.

If you’re a big museum fan, then you definitely need to check out Mexico City! Here you will find the National History Museum, National Museum of Popular Culture, Modern Art Museum, National Museum of Anthropology, National Art Museum and a whole lot more!

If you’re looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, then be sure to visit one of the city’s parks. Chapultepec Park is a fine example.

And if you have the time during your trip to Mexico City, make your way to the 45th floor of the World Trade Center, where you will find the incredible revolving restaurant, Bellini. Here you will get the opportunity to take in some fantastic views while you dine.

Acapulco is another fun Mexican city to visit during your self catering vacation. It’s perfect if you’re planning a beach holiday. You can also try your hand at many water sports here and it’s an ideal location if you want to get down to some serious partying!

Not surprisingly, the beaches are a huge attraction here. There’s Caleta Beach, Icacos Beach, Condesa Beach and others.

Another huge attraction in Acapulco is the Cliff Divers at La Quebrada. Here you can watch the divers jump off the 45-metre cliff into the sea below! It has been taking place for years and years (since the 1940s!).

After a day’s sightseeing or sunbathing, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy Acapulco by night. The city is brimming with nightclubs, discos and bars. Get ready to dance the night away!

Cancún, meanwhile, is an ideal coastal city to tie the knot and then honeymoon! It’s also a perfect destination for a fun-filled family holiday or indeed a sporting vacation. There is no shortage of activities for the children and no end of facilities for those with a keen interest in water sports. For example, you can go sailing, fishing, scuba diving or snorkelling here. Or if you prefer, you can just lie back and sunbathe on one of Cancún’s beautiful, stunning beaches.

Other popular destinations in Mexico include Guadalajara (great for culture, museums, nightlife and food), Mazatlan (stunning beaches), Puerto Vallarta (brimming in natural beauty, gorgeous beaches, plenty of water sports on offer – and you might even see the whales and dolphins while you are here) and Cozumel (an island which is great for scuba diving and snorkelling). Other popular areas in Mexico are Palenque, Oaxaca City, Yucatan, Merida, Tulum, Puerto Escondido, Quintana Roo and Puebla. There are also so many more places to explore besides!

Mexico is a great holiday destination for everyone. It’s ideal for an annual family vacation, a sightseeing or adventure holiday – and it’s a perfect location for a wedding or honeymoon, too!

When you think of food, what is the first thought that comes to mind? Do you envision delicious and hearty Italian meals? Maybe you prefer the robust Greek foods? Regardless of what it you choose, you will find that more and more people around the world are choosing delicious Mexican cuisine for their own.

There are many reasons Mexican cuisine has become such a favorite. Healthy and delicious, this is food that stays with you for generations and is extremely affordable. Yes, authentic Mexican cuisine is not expensive at all. You will find that it is even easy to incorporate this food choice into your regularly scheduled menu.

One of my own personal favorites for choosing authentic foods from Mexico happens to be the vibrant colors. The mix of fruits and meat leave a picture perfect composition worthy of the greatest artworks in the world. Such vibrancy means while my taste buds are relishing the flavors, my eyes are being pleased by the vibrancy.

When considering Mexican cuisine, you should first be aware that there is a different between authentic foods from Mexico and Tex-Mex foods. Tex-Mex foods are a combination or mingling of two cultures. While I thoroughly appreciate Tex-Mex foods, the authentic flavor of Mexican cuisine is undeniably unique and wonderful.

For instance, pico de gallo is a favorite of many people. This is actually Spanish in origin and translates to “rooster’s beak”. Pico de gallo is a wonderful condiment which consists of freshly chopped chiles onions, and tomatoes. Sometimes, those chilies will be serranos, but other times you will find the best of the jalapenos in the world. Lime juice is often used to preserve the color. This is a great addition to any meal and is perfect with a choice of meat and a warm tortilla.

Chorizo is both an ingredient and a delicious meal all by itself. A chorizo is a type of sausage. These are most commonly deep red in color and have a distinctive smoky flavor that will make it something to remember. This is used as commonly as breakfast sausage is to many Americans. These can be sliced and eaten in a warm tortilla or diced and added to other meals. In addition, chorizos are delicious grilled and served for the whole family.

Quesadillas are a favorite for children, and these are so easy to make! All you have to have is a tortilla and cheese. These are similar to the famous grilled cheese sandwiches except a tortilla is used instead. Generally, the tortilla is filled with a layer of cheese, and my favorite, a little chicken, and then this is folded in half so it resembles an omelet. Fry in a skillet and serve. You can even add sour cream or salsa for a delicious snack or meal for children of all ages.

When it comes to great Mexican cuisine, you will discover that the world is a much yummier and colorful place. You too can make meals to remember by brushing up on those tips that allow you to make the best in foods for your family and friends.

Cooking Mexican food is one of those things – you either love it or you haven’t tried it. There are so many reasons why cooking this popular cuisine is such a good, healthy choice. No, you do not have to be from Mexico to appreciate this delectable cuisine. In fact, this is a cuisine that has been gaining immensely in popularity over the past decade. And what isn’t to love?

When choosing the best in ingredients and preparation techniques, you are supporting a healthier lifestyle for yourself and your family. The foods are superbly colored to offer a taste of color to your eyes, the combined smells of onions, peppers, and fresh fruit tantalize your nostrils, and of course, the taste is unique and exquisite offering a complete meal for all of your senses.

When it comes to cooking Mexican food, you will find that there are many popular techniques. No single technique or recipe is right, but there is guaranteed to be a right one for you. With so many choices and options available, you will get the best for your time and money when you know what it is you want.

Making fresh tortilla chips is great, and you will find that there are copious numbers of recipes for tortilla chips. However, many of these may not call for salt. If you know you like to add a bit of added salt or even potassium to your tortilla chips baked into the chip, add salt! Being able to play with the recipe at hand is one of the beautiful things about cooking Mexican food – nothing is set in stone!

Using the freshest ingredients will also allow you to reap the benefits of the ingredients in taste and nutritional value. While fresh foods are generally healthier, you should be aware that sometimes, frozen is good too. One reason you may need to purchase frozen is when the fruits you need are out of season. Frozen will be acceptable as a last resort. Be sure to purchase individually quick frozen foods to get the most nutritional value and taste out of your choice!

When purchasing herbs, spices, and other such delicacies, you will find you can get the kind that comes in a bottle with a shaker already attached, or you can choose a different route and get dried herbs. Some things are perfectly acceptable out of a shaker, but some things should definitely be purchased whole. In addition, you will find you can make your own chili powder or other powders or salts for your own family’s taste.

Another concept you will need to alter to your family’s tastes is the sour cream, salsa, and other additions to the meal. These are generally going to differ from family member to family member. For instance, one family may enjoy some mild salsa with some medium spiced salsa for mom.

Whether you choose one way or the other, you will find that there are many reasons why people choose premade over the other. Cooking Mexican food is great because you can tailor the experience by slightly altering the recipe to suit your taste.

Getting the most for your money means you need great deals for the home. Finding wonderful Mexican recipes for those delicious meals translates to a cheaper budget where you feed you and your family healthy recipes that are sure to please. From enchiladas to chimichangas, having the right recipe will make a world of difference.

Are you thinking of finding some Mexican recipes that are delicious but healthy for your whole family? Authentic Mexican food is a delectable addition to any home pleasing young and old alike. Unlike Tex-Mex cuisine, authentic style is not loaded with the copious amount of extra calories, fats, and sugars. Instead, authentic meals are a colorful meal idea with loads of healthy benefits.

Take a look at a few menu items you may want to investigate for your family!

Burritos are always delicious often consisting of a lean meat such as beef, chicken, and even pork. Vegetables are added with brilliant choices to choose from. Instead of just using those green bell peppers, try adding a unique taste as well as color with the brilliantly colorful red and yellow bell peppers.

Of course, many meals consist of flour or corn tortillas. Each type of tortilla has its place when it comes to Mexican recipes of a more authentic nature. One idea, if you have time, is to make your own tortillas with some of the kits on the market today. These kits generally come with a cast iron press and a bag of the appropriate flour to get you started.

Nothing says delicious like fresh, homemade tortillas!

Tacos are wonderful and a favorite for everyone. These are just as varying as anything else that has to do with cuisine from Mexico. In fact, you can make taco makings and let the kids make their own tacos. Definitely a delightful activity for the whole family.

Remember to avoid some of those empty calories; either negate the sour cream or simply go for a fat-free sour cream. Same great taste without all that extra fat that makes sour cream unhealthy.

Enchiladas are just as popular! Add your favorite ingredients, and you will find a dish of homemade enchiladas will become a favorite dish for just about any get together for church or family. There are a lot of thoughts on what makes the best enchilada, but with a little experience, you will find the pattern perfect for you and your family.

Another awesome factor when it comes to wonderful Mexican recipes is the fact garnishes go a long way. Garnish should be colorful with red, greens, or yellows. Regardless of your use of peppers, chilies, or other vegetables, the garnish is a wonderful way to make the presentation that much better.

When it comes to getting the best in Mexican recipes, the internet is a wonderful tool. Keep in mind that just because it is on the internet does not make it instantly perfect. The wonderful thing about this type of healthy cuisine is that you will make the dish better by exploring your own dishes. Soon, you will have a wonderful family tradition passed down through the generations.

Has this ever happened to you? At that baby shower you have been planning for months, you have a great time. The time for opening the baby shower gifts is at hand, and you excitedly wait for the new mom-to-be to open that new baby stroller you chose so carefully. Then you see the stroller come in and she is thrilled! Mom-to-be looks at the tag and squeals as she runs past you to another friend and thanks them. Yes, someone else bought the exact same stroller you did at the local mall because they thought it looked awesome too.

There is nothing quite as embarrassing as purchasing a duplicate present for someone you care for. Many years past, I can remember my son receiving four of the same purple dinosaur stuffed animals for Christmas. No one ever knew, and three children hopefully appreciated them because they were donated to a local women’s shelter. There is a way to avoid the problem of multiple gifts. Mexican gift baskets may be a great alternative for you and your recipient when you need something that is both unique and totally delicious.

There are many choices when it comes to a gift basket or box. My preference happens to be to fill mine with Mexican food because it is unusual and it is thoroughly appreciated. There are few people who do not appreciate good Mexican food. Whether you stick to something easy or more complicated, these are gifts that will be remembered and appreciated for years to come. In fact, you can add more than just food, you can add memories.

What can you add to these exceptional presents?

Consider the baskets or boxes. These are a great opportunity to offer a present within a present. The baskets can be beautiful, authentic matching the rich history Mexico has when it comes to basket weaving. Consider something small but authentic and this will be as appreciated as the contents of your soon to be present.

Consider the filler. Most baskets or boxes come with a filler material. This can be straw, paper, or some other type of filler. For these Mexican baskets I prefer straw. The straw is stable, inexpensive, and gives a beautiful look to the whole ensemble. Straw can be natural in color or even dyed to give you a look you want for your purposes.

Consider the filling! This is the best part of any gift basket. You can choose salsas, sauces, tortilla chips, recipes, hot sauces, and so much more on the edible side. However, there is also an inedible side too! There are decorations, seeds, glass goods, and so much more. You will most often find a mixture of edible and inedible items make a gift basket that will be in the heart of your receiver for years to come. Not only will they be fed but they will also have a beautiful keepsake or two.

When you are making a gift basket for your friends or family, you may just find that a delicious idea is waiting when you explore the cuisine and culture of Mexico.

. I have to say, it lived up to its reputation. For a great locals-style breakfast, pop in to Old Monterey Cafe on Alvarado Street. Next, rent a surrey from Bay Bikes and explore Monterey State Historic Park, just a few blocks up the street. You’ll find some of the best preserved adobes in California here, including Custom House, built by Mexico in 1827 for sea trading, and California’s First Theatre, built in 1846 as entertainment for local sailors. California’s first state …
